Changing identity documents can be expensive, and a majority of our clients would not be able to change them without financial assistance from us.
TransLAW is entirely run and staffed by volunteers, and we make every effort to ensure that our administrative costs are minimal. We primarily raise funds to pay the name and gender-marker change court fees and publication fees for low and no-income transgender people.
Since our first clinic in June 2012, which we operate in partnership with Whitman-Walker Health, over 1200 transgender people in the DC Metro Area have come to the Name and Gender Change Clinic to get help with this process. To date, thanks to the generousity of supporters like you, we have been able to meet the financial needs of every person who has asked for assistance.

$25 - Sponsor one client's DMV fees for an updated identification card
$75 - Sponsor one client's publication requirement for a name change
$100 - Sponsor one client's publication and mailing requirements for a name change

$250 - Sponsor one client's court costs, mailings, and publication requirements
$500 - Fully fund the name and gender change process for two clients
